Maine Statehood and the Bicentennial at the Meetinghouse, Aug. 22, 2021
"Maine Statehood and the Bicentennial," an illustrated talk with UMaine Professor Liam Riordan was given at the Biddeford Historical Society's First Parish Meetinghouse on Sunday, August 22nd.
McArthur Library and the Biddeford Historical Society hosted this free event for the public as part of Maine's Bicentennial commemoration. We enjoyed a delicious Reilly's Bakery "1901 Maine Flag" cake!
Below, the first two photos depict our Board Member Catherine Glynn during her introduction of Dr. Liam Riordan, Ph.D, UMO History Professor. After that, photos depict Dr. Liam Riordan speaking on a variety of subjects associated with the process of Maine separating from Massachusetts and taking her seat as a fully recognized state within the United States on March 15,1820. Dr. Riordan addressed a number of key historical events and procedures which gave us light into the struggle and conclusion for our independence.
